Responsibilities

 ERCS acknowledges that safeguarding responsibilities vary across different roles within the organisation. Each position, from volunteers, staff, managers, and those in governance, have a distinct yet complementary role in maintaining the safety and well-being of those we serve. ERCS ensures that every member is equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to fulfill their specific safeguarding duties.

Additionally, ERCS calls upon its partners to adhere to the National Principles, each state’s local expressions of these principles, and any relevant legislation or leading practices. By working collaboratively, we can create a cohesive and comprehensive safeguarding network that protects and supports all individuals within our communities.

Our Safeguarding Principles

1. Zero tolerance of abuse, exploitation, and harassment. ERCS strictly prohibits all forms of abuse against all individuals and commits to acting on all safeguarding concerns and risks raised.  

2. Diversity respected. All individuals are unique and will be treated equally and fairly. Everyone has the right to be safe regardless of any diverse factors. These factors may include socioeconomic status, nationality, sexuality, gender, culture, race, ethnicity, beliefs, health, or any other status.

3. Committed Leadership. Members of leadership work collaboratively to embed safeguarding within the organisation’s culture. This is vital as it drives the development of a strong culture and sets a clear precedent for others.

4. Shared Responsibility. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and collective community responses are required to ensure a safe culture is fostered and maintained across ERCS. ERCS calls upon its partners for their commitment to reducing the risk of and responding appropriately to child abuse and any concerns regarding sexual exploitation, neglect, abuse and harassment.

5. Professional Responses. All concerns regarding the safety, development, health or well-being of a participants will be managed with a high degree of professionalism. At all times, matters will be responded to impartially and promptly, and appropriate confidentiality will always be maintained.

6. Accountability and Transparency. ERCS will maintain transparent safeguarding operations. ERCS is accountable to all who engage with any service provision, any partners and the broader communities where our services operate. 

By upholding our Safeguarding Principles, ERCS demonstrates genuine respect for the inherent value, dignity, and worth of every individual. Fundamental human rights are the cornerstone of strong communities where each member feels safe, secure, and connected. Together, we can build a community where everyone belongs.
